Additional Instructions:
· We request a video of the behavior of concern if you are able to do so safely without triggering any aggressive behavior. We do not want you, your pet or anyone else injured while making the video. Even if you are unable to get the behavior in question on the video, watching the pet’s body language in its own environment can be very helpful. For cases of dogs fighting in the home, we request video of the dogs in the living space with family members present, and while away from the family members, such as in a backyard while recording through a window. Again, please only pursue collecting video if it can be done safely without triggering aggression. Cell phone videos are acceptable. · For feline elimination cases, please bring with you a rough diagram of the house, including locations of litter boxes, food and water bowls, resting areas, soiled areas, and doors and windows. · We request that all family members involved with the pet attend the consult if possible. Children under the age of 5 do not have to attend. If they are involved with the problem behavior, video can be made as instructed above. · Please bring with you to the consult your pet’s favorite treats, toys and all training tools you are currently using or have used in the past (leash, collars, etc.). · Please withhold your pet’s morning meal the day of the consultation. If your consultation is in the afternoon, you can give your pet ½ of his or her normal morning meal. This helps to ensure your pet is interested in training with us during the consultation. · Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your pet’s scheduled appointment time to allow time for paperwork completion. |
Costs Associated with a Consultation
Factors such as cost of the visits, treatment tools, and time spent on appointments can be a surprise to someone who is not familiar with a veterinary behavior specialist. You should plan on the first consultation to last approximately 2 hours. Most pets require one to two subsequent visits at 4-6 week intervals. These subsequent visits are usually around 1 hour in length. The total lengths of the consults might vary based on the complexity of your pet’s problem. Consultations are charged based on an hourly rate of ~$160.00 per hour. This does not include medications or supplies that may be prescribed as part of your pet’s treatment plan. The associated costs for these will be discussed prior to pursuing these services. Additional medical workup and/ or labwork might be recommended with your primary care veterinarian depending on your pet’s diagnosis. It is difficult to predict cost of medications dispensed as this varies with the diagnosis and the size of the pet. Labwork or additional diagnostics if needed often average $180- $250.
A $50 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your appointment time. Should you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, we ask that you let us know at least 48 hours in advance in order for us to fill the appointment with pets from our waiting list. Any no-show, cancellation or reschedule request made less than 48 hours prior to the scheduled consultation will result in forfeiture of the full deposit.
If you are concerned about your pet’s behavior (or potential behavior) in the lobby, please check in at the front desk and leave your pet in the car. Our behavior staff or I will escort you and your pet from the car to the consult room.
Please do not hesitate to call Doggie Do Right if you have any questions regarding your appointment. We look forward to meeting you and your pet!
